Resveratrol is Found in Red Wine and Other Non-Alcohol Beverages
By Doug Sandquist
What? Okay, let’s begin by defining Resveratrol before we go any further. From MedicineNet.net…… ” Resveratrol: An antioxidant present in many plants. Resveratrol is a type of polyphenol called a phytoalexin, a class of compounds produced as part of a plant’s defense system against disease. It is produced in the plant in response to an invading fungus, stress, injury, infection, or ultraviolet irradiation. Red wine contains high levels of resveratrol, as do grapes, raspberries, peanuts, and numerous other plants. The French Paradox — how the French live longer while their diet is high in fats — has been attributed to the fact that wine is rich in resveratrol.”
The most common plants that produces this are red grapes, and also the super food from Brazil, Acai, among other mainly dark purple fruits. Acai is fast becoming known as the super food as it is so full of antioxidants, in fact 10 times more so than cranberries and blueberries which are the best we have in North America.
In a very balanced article from Mayo Clinic discussing the benefits of Reveratrol,
( http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/red-wine/HB00089 ), studies seem to indicate that this Phytoalexin, helps in heart health by lowering cholesterol and helping maintain well veins and arteries.
If you are thinking about adding this to your supplements, start by doing some research on your own about the benefits of Resveratrol and the Acai berry. Between the two of them it seems that we should make a concerted effort to getting some of both into our bodies daily. Unless you just like cheeseburgers and won’t eat any fruit of any kind. Of course those people probably haven’t read this far into this article have they?
Resveratrol is available all over the place, over the counter, usually in pill or capsule form, which is better than nothing but too often not that much better than nothing. A liquid form is more readily absorbedl Several vitamin companies sell it in one form or another. I have my own favorite, which is a juice derived from 18 other heart healthy fruits besides the Acai, with 30 times more Resveratrol then red wine, but do some research and see what you think is the best choice for your money, I did.
Have a heart healthy day!

Resveratrol is a simple hydro-carbon chemical compound found in the skin of red grapes. It has been known of for decades now as an anti-inflammatory, a treatment for low blood sugar, liver, heart, and blood vessel diseases.
In addition, it has also been proven to treat cancer and reduce the effects of aging along the same lines as a calorie reducing diet. Research has even shown that resveratol may protect individuals from radiation exposure.
Resveratol supplements have been used to lose weight, to make skin more youthful, to discourage the growth of plaque in the brain preventing, among other things, the development of Alzhiemer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.
As a phytoalexin, resveratol occurs naturally in a large number of plants including peanuts and mulberries and is produced by said plants throughout their anatomy in order to prevent disease and fungal spreading. In the human body, as a phytoestrogenical compound, resveratol combats the effects of aging by combating the body’s estrogen reserves. It also increases metabolic activity resulting in greater weight loss when exercising. When using resveratol, people have been shown to experience a greater sense of overall well being. This effect has yet to be attributed to any specific factor users cite several particular reasons. Among them are the improved mental faculties stemming from a sharper, more reliable memory and the reduction in wrinkles and sagging and stretch marks. Others claim that the energy boost resveratol gives them is what makes it special and unique while others still praise it for its effect on their coronary, liver, and blood vessel dysfunctions.
Resveratol supplements are proven to counteract the effects of high fat and high calorie diets and when combined with low calorie and low fat diets, resveratol has been shown to drastically reduce the weight of users by increasing energy and metabolism resulting in a slimmer figure and a reduced appetite. Evidence has been shown that a reduced appetite on its own will cause weigh to be lost. The effects anti-aging effects of resveratol are evident immediately in the texture of the skin and is due to the interaction with estrogen in the body. With the help of resveratol supplements one looks and feels younger, both in mind and body thanks to anti-aging effects and the various forms of disease prevention.

Exercise Tip of the Month
Grow your health with 200 minutes of physical exercise or vigorous physical activity each week
Aerobic exercise not only strengthens your heart — it helps you maintain muscle power, balance and coordination, reduces your risk for back pain and injury and helps you lose weight… but that’s not all! A new study from the University of Toronto, Canada shows that aerobic exercise can delay the aging process, reduce the risk of serious disease and promote faster recovery after injury or illness.
Running, cycling, brisk “power” walking, swimming and a variety of group fitness classes including Newbody, BodyAttack, BodyStep, BodyCombat, RPM and the NEW BodyVive class are types of aerobic activities that improve the body’s oxygen consumption and energy production. Three of these classes a week plus a 20-minute power walk or jog will keep you heart healthy and feeling younger.

Muscle Move
STEP INTO SPRING WITH STRENGTH AND STABILITY
Reps and Sets:
Begin by performing exercise #1 — 10 repetitions on each leg, rest and repeat. Then perform exercise #2 –10 repetitions on each leg, rest then repeat again.
Progress by combining the two exercises together – “Step Up” (from behind the step as shown), then bring the back leg over top of the bench and perform a “Dip Squat” down, pause, return to start and repeat 10 repetitions on one leg, switch legs and repeat. The key to this exercise is performing each exercise or the sequence slowly while maintaining great posture.
Single leg “step ups and semi squats” are two great moves for all exercisers who want or need to increase their lower body strength and overall balance, protect their knees and hips against injury and even lower risk of falling. These two exercises help strengthen the gluteals (butt), quadriceps and hamstrings (upper thigh) required for standing, walking and running, climbing up and down stairs, squatting and lunging— and improve your ability to stand on one leg without losing your balance. You can perform these exercises standing on a bench or a step on your stairway at home. Feel free to support yourself by holding onto the railing or the wall when first starting out. Participate in BodyFlow, Newbody or the NEW BodyVive group fitness class to learn how to strengthen these muscles this way.
Action:
Exercise #1 – Step Up
Stand behind a bench or step; hand on hips with feet hip width apart. Pull your abdominals in and lift your chest to stand tall.
Place one foot on the step, bend both knees and lean slightly forward over the front foot (keep front knee aligned directly over top of the foot).
Press upward through the front foot to rise and lift the back leg straight behind you (keep your leg lift low to maintain a neutral spine). Pause, lower down back foot, then front foot to starting position. Repeat 10 times, and rest; switch legs and repeat.
Exercise #2 – Dip Squat
Stand on the step or bench with both feet hip width apart and hands on hips, chest lifted and shoulders back. Keep your abdominals pulled in and squeeze your butt.
Keep this squeeze as you step one foot off the front edge of the step. Exhale and slowly lower your heel half-way towards the floor, pause to breathe in, exhale and stand up to return to the starting position.
Repeat 10 times, switch legs and repeat. Provided by: Maureen Hagan – BScPT, BA PE,VP Operations- GoodLife Fitness

Diet Tips For Healthier Eating
by admin
Making a few small shifts in habits and routines may help you to achieve your weight loss and diet goals. A first tip that comes to mind is eating directly out of a bag or box. This can settle into a sort of mindless routine and it’s very hard to control your intake if you are watching television or reading a book and just reaching for a few more out of that store container. Chips and popcorn put into a bowl is a good way to control the amount. Once you are finished, you are finished. A movie popcorn can contain 1,500 calories.
Do eat more slowly. It takes about twenty minutes for your brain to tell your stomach that it’s full. If you eat so fast that you are just throwing things into your mouth mindlessly, there is no chance for the signal to switch on, or it could switch on late. Also, eating more slowly lets your body metabolize the food better. Try to eat with no distractions — and sitting at the dining table will enable you to concentrate on the meal in front of you.
Most of us love dessert and we don’t have to miss out on one after a meal. Substituting yoghurt for ice cream or a piece of fruit for a pie slice, or just cutting any dessert in half will really help. Some nuts or cheese or grapes for instance, can serve as added protein and fiber yet give the sense of a meal “finisher”. Use of a vaporizer with a peppermint or other soothing or sweet herb is a great no-calorie way to get a sense of a dessert, without actually eating one — and it can relax you also, which is better for digestion.
After eating your meal, wait at least ten minutes before reaching for seconds, and have a glass of water before every meal. If you are eating out, ask for a take home box before you start eating and put half of your meal into the box. Out of sight and out of mind really works. A lot of small lifestyle changes really add up. If you can start one or two at a time, then add more later as you go along, the transition to a healthier way of eating will come much easier. As always, stay healthy and happy.

Healthy Eating in 100 Words
Healthy Eating in 100 Words
By Jeff Hopeck
Everyone has a different idea of what healthy eating means. Some think it’s all about eating lettuce and drinking only water. Others think eating healthy means you have to make gigantic sacrifices in your life that amount to starvation. To me, eating healthy means this:
“You have only one chance at life. It makes more sense to increase your chances of living longer; opposed to decreasing you chances of living longer. Eating healthy means you have taken the initiative to be around longer for those you love. Heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol have sunk in at some point, and you refuse to take any chances. Eating healthy means you have self-will, self-awareness, self-confidence, and the desire to look and feel great every single day. You understand your bank statement, so should you understand words like sodium, fat & sugar. Start now.”
Simple ways to eat healthier starting today:
* Reverse your veggie to non-veggie ratio. Eat more veggies and less of the other stuff- that other stuff is what’s giving you the love handles. Meat is high in sodium and fat, so eat less of it.
* Butter be gone. When you order out, make sure they prepare your meal without butter. Most restaurants use butter to add flavor to food that has been sitting out for a while.
* Use milk instead of cream in your coffee.
* Rinse all your canned foods before eating them. It washes the sodium away from them!
* Learn about food labels. Reducing fat, sodium and sugar are critical to living healthier.

Resveratrol – Fountain of Youth Or Overhyped Fad?
By Janelle Hampton
You may be hearing a lot lately about Resveratrol and it’s supposed anti aging abilities. It’s been featured on numerous news programs from Barbara Walters to 60 minutes and even on Oprah’s show. While it’s nice to think that there is actually a natural way to turn back the hands of time, you have got to be wondering if this is for real.
Is Resveratrol really the fountain of youth that they make it out to be, or will it be just another disappointment on the path to finding a way to stay young? Let’s take a hard look at these claims and the science behind them.
Usually when you see anti aging remedies being sold, there is little to no scientific proof of their abilities. This is where Resveratrol is different. There have been a number of serious scientific studies done on this at universities and labs around the world. The results are astounding.
It has been no secret in some parts of the world that drinking red wine is actually very good for you. In the Mediterranean, the diet is less than healthy but the rate of age related diseases is shockingly low. The difference between that culture and most western cultures is that red wine is an essential part of their diet. This is what originally clued scientists in to the possibility that red wine had something very special about it.
That something special is Resveratrol . This compound is derived from the skin of grapes and is plentiful in red wine. In studies done on fungi, roundworms, and fruit flies Resveratrol was shown to increase the life span of these organisms by to up to 70%. For us humans, there are a number of additional benefits. Just about every age related disease from heart disease to diabetes showed improvement with the use of Resveratrol supplements.
Preventing disease and extending life is not all that this is good for. It has also been shown to increase the metabolism and assist in weight loss as well as increasing energy levels. The proof is in the studies – Resveratrol is a very powerful and all natural supplement that can increase both the quality and quantity of life.
Perhaps that is why there is so much buzz in the media about these amazing new discoveries. Unlike the lotions and potions you typically hear about, Resveratrol works and comes with the scientific evidence to prove it.

Resveratrol Has No Side Effects – The Benefits of Having it As Your Daily Health Supplement
By Nicole McDaniels
After feasting on pomegranate, acai berry, and other so-called elite foods, all eyes shifted to a newcomer. Its name: resveratrol. And now, everyone is fanatical about it. Supplements are selling like crazy, red wines are running out in stores, and famous personalities are endorsing the products. New scientific and medical studies are being launched left and right; heavy marketing is implemented; and people are searching for alternative sources that will provide them the quantity of resveratrol they want, minus the dizziness and other after-effects of alcohol.
Let’s back away from the hype for a bit, though. It seems that online and regular merchants have good reasons to push their resveratrol-based products. For one, this compound has no known serious side-effects, yet. And this seems to be the trend for the near future. Apart from the dizziness and intoxication that come alongside wine consumption, there are no other harmful side-effects to this supplement. Experts agree though that the source of the polyphenol puts forth more concern than the polyphenol itself.
For example, peanut, a good source of resveratrol, may pose some risks to those people who have serious sensitivities to peanuts. The same applies to other fruits. The good news is that if you don’t mind eating berries and you are not allergic to them, you can rest the issue of side-effects. As for the fermented red grape products, well, isn’t resveratrol a good excuse to add a few more glasses of wine in your diet?
Moreover, resveratrol is confirmed to provide a host of good effects to the body. It helps lower bad cholesterol while at the same time fixes the level of good cholesterol. This cascades into various healthy effects such as the inhibition of fat deposition in the arteries, better blood circulation, and of course, lower incidence of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular-related diseases.
If the only reason why you are hesitant with the idea of incorporating resveratrol into your daily diet is the feared side-effects of the compound, then you can rest your concern in peace for there is none.

What Should I Eat Before Morning Workout?
By Kai Lo
That is a very common question. Whatever you do, you should never workout on an empty stomach. That is similar to driving a car with no fuel.
As soon as you wake up, you need to chug a serving of whey protein shake. Eat one cup of plain oatmeal along with a glass of fat-free milk. These will give you plenty of energy for your morning workout.
If one cup of oatmeal makes you feel full, reduce that by half. You should never exercise on a full stomach. Oatmeal is not the only choice because you can have any other types of whole-wheat grain such as brown rice, whole-wheat bread, etc.
Some people even go into the gym after eating one fruit, but I don’t recommend that because if you feel hungry, you will feel very weak to lift your best.
Stay away from starchy carbs such as candy and soda because they make you feel tired. Some people will tell you starchy carbs give you energy. Do not listen to them!
If this morning workout is only cardio to burn fat, then you should not eat anything other than drinking a serving of whey protein shake. If you eat, then your cardio will only burn off what you just ate. Calories from protein are the easiest to burn, and you don’t want to do cardio on a completely empty stomach because you might faint! You will probably burnout as soon as you start because you have no fuel.
Does it feel like it is impossible for you to gain weight? Try Vince DelMonte’s Hardgainer Program if you seriously want to pack on muscle mass. He also has a program to help those who want to lose weight and get six pack abs. Completely risk-free for 60 days so you have to take actions now!
